Pregnancy at week 12, You are just about to complete the first trimester of pregnancy, and the fetus continues to develop.
The fetus is around 2.1 inches (5.3 centimeters )long from head to bottom and weighs about 2 ounces (58 grams )-about the size and weight of a lime.
Their first responses are developing. The fetus can move in response to pressure on the abdomen. They are very active at this stage, but it’s probably still too early for you to be able to feel any movement. During their first pregnancy, most people will be able to feel the baby’s movements at around 18–20 weeks. If they have had a baby before, it may be a week sooner.
The amniotic sac is filled with about one ounce (30 milliliters)of fluid.
The placenta is functioning well, supplying thyroid hormone for the fetus, so it is less dependent on your thyroid hormones.
The placenta has many important jobs;
- Making hormones to support the pregnancy and help the baby grow.
- Feeding the baby by transporting nutrients.
- Transporting oxygen to the baby.
- Removing the baby’s waste.
- Blocking the entry of chemicals and toxic substances.
- protecting the baby from diseases by blocking germs and transporting antibodies.
If you are taking any medicine, the placenta can block some, let some pass through, and make others much stronger. It is important to check with your health care provider before taking any medication to make sure that’s it’s safe for the developing baby.
At this stage, the fetus’s fingers and toes have developed. Their reproductive, circulatory, and urinary systems are all at an advanced stage of development. They can use their mouth, jaws, and tongue to yawn and swallow. In an ultrasound, you might be able to see the fetus trying to put its fingers in its mouth.
By pregnancy at week 12, almost every part of the fetus is in an accelerated stage of development to become larger and stronger from now until delivery.
